AI video is soaring with Sora 2
Video isn’t the future. It’s the now.
Every year, nearly 1 billion videos are uploaded to YouTube, and TikTok racks up billions of daily views. That’s billion with a B. The scale is almost impossible to wrap your head around. And as more Gen Z buyers enter the housing market, the expectation for video isn’t going down. It’s skyrocketing.
Here’s the problem: video has always been tough for most real estate agents. To get it right, you either spend a lot of time learning how to shoot, edit, and post consistently, or you throw big money at production teams. Most agents don’t have the time, budget, or frankly, the bandwidth to keep it up.
Enter Sora 2
That’s why OpenAI’s launch of Sora 2 has the AI world buzzing. Sora takes a simple prompt, either typed or spoken, and turns it into a short, realistic video clip, complete with synced audio and music. No cameras, no editing suites, no hiring out. Just describe what you want, and Sora builds it in seconds. At least that’s what it is promising. Take a look here.
Of course, there’s a catch
Right now, access is invitation-only.
Even if you’re a ChatGPT Plus or Business subscriber, you need an invite code to get in. Those codes are being doled out slowly, and some early testers get a handful to share. But don’t try buying one off eBay. That’s a violation of OpenAI’s terms and could get your entire ChatGPT account suspended. The horror!
But do watch out for one, and if you know someone using it, ask for a code. I rarely write about new AI tools that are in Beta, but this is one to stay on top of and to download the app from your app store to be ready to try it out.
Don’t worry about it training on your data: if you are a ChatGPT Business (was Teams) user, it won’t.
Sora 2 goes social
Sora 2 is not just a video generator. It comes packaged inside a brand-new social app that looks and feels like TikTok. Think scrollable feeds, remix features, and the ability to cameo yourself or your friends – with permission.
And there’s the first rub. Sora 2 is quickly being blasted for being a deep fake tool.
On the other hand, OpenAI is betting big that the Sora app becomes a creator platform, not just a tool. Real estate agents love to experiment, and video is a great way to test your AI prompt skills.
What this means for real estate
So, what does this mean for agents? A few opportunities jump out:
- Turn data-heavy content, like market stats, into quick explainer videos.
- Build fun, branded micro-content for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, or TikTok.
- Collaborate with other local businesses to co-create video content.
In other words, Sora 2 has the potential to help promote you – but I would not suggest using it with listings.
And while it may not be the “easy button” agents need for video, it still is one to watch.
Watch for your invite
If you’re already a ChatGPT Plus or Business subscriber, keep an eye on your inbox and ChatGPT notifications. The invite wave will hit those tiers first. And when it does, the agents who are ready to experiment with Sora 2 will be the ones who get noticed.
Because here’s the truth: the world isn’t waiting for real estate to catch up with video. Your future clients are already consuming video-first content every day. The only question is whether they’ll find yours or your competitor’s. (-Kevin)
