Who should drive this real estate bus?

By |2018-05-03T21:26:34-07:00February 3rd, 2009|Main category|Comments Off on Who should drive this real estate bus?

Attending the recent Real Estate Connect conference in NY City I heard a lot of very bright individuals speak about the future of MLS.  There were some great opinions and observations a few semi- heated debates but more than anything, what really stood out for me, was how disjointed and dysfunctional our industry is in some regards.   The other thing that struck me was how well our industry and in particular, MLSs, work in spite of that fact. Think of the different tracks we see being taken by influential, bright movers and shakers in our industry and tell me if [...]

Memo to GE Supra, Ditch the Palm Treo – its days are numbered.

I switched from Blackberry to Palm when the Treo came out and used the Treo (really, 8 replacement phones) for three years before moving to the iPhone.   I had my reasons - principally the top 10 reasons were the 10 people who reported to me, coupled with communications with the executive team during a three-year project.  The company also had a relationship with Verizon, CRM integration, etc.  When you have everything tied into one mobile platform - the best bet is to stick with it, right? For real estate, it is time to let go! The Treo is large and clunky - [...]

Twitterstate: Twitter for Real Estate Professionals

By |2018-05-03T21:26:45-07:00March 23rd, 2008|Main category|Comments Off on Twitterstate: Twitter for Real Estate Professionals

I started using Twitter again recently because of some blog posts that I read by some pretty influential people. What is twitter? Twitter is a very easy to use, real time messaging system for groups and friends. Another way to think of it would be text messaging (or instant messaging) from one person to many people at the same time. The length of each message is about 1 sentence (140 characters). Twitter is free and easy to use. When I got started with Twitter in June of 2007, it was a relatively new thing. The company launched in March of 2006. [...]

The WAV Group PRO Plan is a comprehensive strategic planning process which helps an organization uncover major opportunities for improvement and then build and execute action plans to achieve these breakthroughs. In order for a strategic plan to be effective, it needs to incorporate both internal and external perspectives.  It needs to examine the Association’s strengths and weaknesses from the perspective of the internal staff and members as well as home buyers and sellers.  In addition, it needs to compare the organization relative to broader market trends observed from similar associations within the real estate industry and overall real estate [...]

Realty on Rails

Ruby on Rails may soon become the leader in development platforms for real estate applications. What is Ruby? Ruby is an object-oriented interpreted scripting language created by Yukihiro Matsumoto. Since the mid 1990s, it has grown in popularity in Japan and has gained recent attention as the language behind the Rails framework. You can use the language for a striking variety of functions—from basic scripting to creating Windows applications to developing Web applications. You can start using Rails without extensive knowledge of the language; the Rails framework generates the fundamental classes needed for the Web application and uses reflection to [...]
