It is no surprise to anyone in real estate that the rental market has caught fire. Many MLSs are scrambling to expanded offerings to meet the needs of brokers who have focused on growing their property management business to meet demand. “Nobody wants to own a vacant home,” says Amy Gallagher of Century 21 Hometown. “We represent investors in buying rental property, and attract them with our strong property management business - we capture a side or two of the sale, and an ongoing business relationship that lasts years.” One thing that you can always trust consumers to do is vote with [...]

By |2018-05-03T21:25:58-07:00November 11th, 2010|Main category|Comments Off on Get inspired to use social media to expand your real estate influence

Whenever I need a little boost to remind me how important active participation in social media is, I refer back to the phenomenal video produced by the Socialnomics group. Their video entitled the Social Media Revolution(Refresh) graphically depicts the fundamental shift in the way the world communicates and creates relationships these days.  Those that choose to ignore social media are choosing to ignore a very interesting and important conversation happening with friends and colleagues you know and many you don’t.  The video will help you understand why we cannot ignore social media anymore - it has pervaded every element of our lives. I [...]

By |2018-05-03T21:26:06-07:00May 7th, 2010|Main category|Comments Off on MLS data security still a big problem

Recently I was asked by a broker client of ours to review a product that they were considering implementing.  Without belaboring before getting to the point, upon investigation with the MLS, I learned that the vendor was not an approved data vendor in their markets.  Further questioning of the vendor revealed that they way they access the data required for their product is to use an MLS username and password provided by the broker.  After falling out of my chair, we notified the vendor and the MLS.  Clearly, the subject MLS does not have data security that prevents password sharing or [...]

Who is your company’s CSO?

By |2018-05-03T21:26:10-07:00April 13th, 2010|Broker-Agent Information, Main category, MLS Insights|Comments Off on Who is your company’s CSO?

In real estate, we love our letters.  CSO is Chief Social Officer.  Hence the question begins; who is your company’s designee that owns your social media strategy? As we look back over the past few years, social media evolved slowly.  Most corporations started with the tactic of outlawing Social media by employees.  After all, like personal cell phone usage, it was viewed as a distraction from the work at hand.  Now things have evolved, and progressive organizations have learned that social networking by employees (if done correctly) enhances the company’s brand and strengthens relationships with customers. The challenge is to [...]

The 3rd annual AFIRE (Awesome Females in Real Estate) is being held from March 25th - 27th in historic Savannah, Georgia. This is absoiutely my favorite conference of the year. It is the only conference I have ever attended that combines personal growth with incredible real estate networking opportunities.Conference attendees are primarily female executives from real estate brokerages, technology vendors, associations and MLSs.  It is a terrific collection of hard-working, intelligent, successful women who come together to share ideas about how to open the potential for more success in business and personal situations. For those of you that feel like [...]
