MOVE, operators of Realtor.com, Acquires Threewide Listhub

By |2018-05-03T21:26:01-07:00September 21st, 2010|Main category|Comments Off on MOVE, operators of Realtor.com, Acquires Threewide Listhub

In a MOVE that is sure to improve listing syndication to third party websites, MOVE, Inc has aquired Threewide, the operators of the popular ListHub product which syndicates listings to their party websites like Trulia and Zillow for customers like MLSs, Brokers, Franchises, etc. If you saw the MOVE announcement last week whereby their contract with NAR regarding Listing Syndication needed to be amended, you can appreciate just how tight the relationship is between MOVE and NAR. There is very little that MOVE can do without NAR’s blessing and approval. Everyone should be proud that NAR takes Broker Listing Content so [...]

The RPR – Data Seeker Update

By |2018-05-03T21:26:02-07:00September 21st, 2010|Broker-Agent Information, Main category, MLS Insights, Our Company|Comments Off on The RPR – Data Seeker Update

The RPR Data Seeker Update It has been almost twelve months since the San Diego NAR conference when RPR had their coming out party and began the data wars our industry finds itself in.  Maybe it didn’t actually start the whole issue of using MLS data for non-traditional purposes, but it certainly put it in our mainstream discussions.  It also made the whole concept of using MLS data for purposes other than selling properties a concept that the industry was willing to consider.  This was a big shift and one that hadn’t had much energy since REGIB (Real Estate Business [...]

Professional real estate websites are losing the battle for consumers online. Todays real estate consumer has a dizzying array of websites that provide them with access to real estate listings.  There are numerous third party websites like Zillow and Trulia as well as national real estate Franchise sites and local real estate company websites.  Consumers likely assume that all of these sites offer the same quality of information. Unfortunately this isnt the case. This white paper from the WAV Group chronicles research findings on the consumer search experience.  WAV Group has calculated the differences between third party websites, franchise websites, and broker websites [...]

NAR and MOVE sign new operating Agreement that makes Realtor.com a syndicator

By |2018-05-03T21:26:02-07:00September 16th, 2010|Main category|Comments Off on NAR and MOVE sign new operating Agreement that makes Realtor.com a syndicator

In a press release published today, the National Association of REALTORS and MOVE, INC (operators of REALTOR.com) announced that they have completed the renewal of the agreement between these two parties to continue their relationship. In an unexpected twist, realtor.com may now act as a syndication resource to agents and brokers who which to have their listings appear on other third party websites like Zillow, Trulia, MSN, Yahoo, Google and a long list of other third party websites. This is great news for agents and brokers who are challenged to keep their listing content current and accurate at third party [...]

The Starfish and the Spider

By |2018-05-03T21:26:03-07:00September 9th, 2010|Main category|Comments Off on The Starfish and the Spider

I just read a great book that I would suggest others read called The Starfish and The Spider, The unstoppable power of leaderless organizations by Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom (available everywhere including the ipad). The book starts out by providing a chronicle of how science thinks the brain works. We have learned over the years that memories are not stored in one spot, but all over the brain - much like information indexed by Google is located all over the internet. As much as scientists wanted to hind heirarchy in the brain, it was not there - which makes [...]

Third Parties making money from disorganized real estate

By |2018-05-03T21:26:04-07:00July 9th, 2010|Broker-Agent Information, Main category|Comments Off on Third Parties making money from disorganized real estate

My Rant - WAV Group has been pretty outspoken about third party listing websites. They exist because brokers, MLSs, and Associations have not elevated their thinking about listing syndication. I think that it is time for CMLS, NAR, Realty Alliance, or some mutual benefit organization to step up and harness listing distribution and revenues from listing distribution to return revenue to its rightful owner - the brokers. Here are the problems 1.  Data that appears on third party listing websites is grossly inaccurate - as high as 40% in some markets. Inaccurate data leads to bad leads, irritated home buyers [...]

Will Move follow Pandora to success

By |2018-05-03T21:26:13-07:00March 10th, 2010|Main category, MLS Insights|Comments Off on Will Move follow Pandora to success

Move Inc, the operators of REALTOR.com and a list of many quality products and services to the real estate industry has had a rough ride.  In total, they have lost over $2 Billion dollars in their history, and were profitable for two years.  On the surface, this sounds like pretty poor performance, but nothing could be further from the truth.  They have accomplished some outstanding milestones and could be close to hitting a home run.  All of the ingredients are in place.  They have the largest consumer audience with strong advertiser support, the most data, and significant agent/broker sales revenue. Music streaming company Pandora faced [...]

Can an MLS provide data to third parties without broker consent

By |2018-05-03T21:26:14-07:00February 10th, 2010|Main category, MLS Insights, Strategic Planning|Comments Off on Can an MLS provide data to third parties without broker consent

The law offices of Larson/Sobotka have written a very good article on their blog about the NAR policy that limits the actions of an MLS to redistribute or repurpose broker (participant) data without the consent of the broker.   Larson writes: “If your MLS is affiliated with NAR and subject to NAR policy, it is bound by NAR Statement of MLS Policy 7.85: Use of listings and listing information by MLSs for purposes other than the defined purposes of MLS requires participants consent. Such consent cannot be required as a condition of obtaining or maintaining MLS participatory rights. MLSs may presume such [...]

New Subscription Model needed for Broker CMA services

By |2018-05-03T21:26:16-07:00January 26th, 2010|Broker Technology Research, Broker-Agent Information, Main category|Comments Off on New Subscription Model needed for Broker CMA services

Brokers are facing new challenges in today’s economy.  Traditional firms have often focused on advertising or co-op advertising as a primary benefit to agents who join their firms.  The new broker model is different.  Brokers are turning more and more toward training agents and the offering of technology services that are vital to the success of real estate professionals today.  When brokers look at implementing technology services today, they face pricing challenges from vendors who are slow to understand the broker’s business model.  Companies who offer CMA products charge monthly fees per agent rather than bulk service fees – making [...]

Top 10 Reasons Agent Websites Fail

By |2018-05-03T21:26:26-07:00June 16th, 2009|Main category|Comments Off on Top 10 Reasons Agent Websites Fail

I ran across this terrific post from Dennis Miloseski, Founder and CEO of Milobox, a new real estate web development company.  He talks about ten reasons why agent websites fail. He hits on a lot of great points here. Enjoy. 10. There is more emphasis on you, rather than your listings. Most agents are paying way too much for web sites that stroke their egos, building the “look at me bio sites” rather than leveraging open services of the web to give their properties the most exposure online – the real job of any agent site. Remember that most visitors are [...]
