Zillow jumps to new, record highs

By |2018-05-03T21:25:55-07:00January 3rd, 2011|Broker-Agent Information, Main category|Comments Off on Zillow jumps to new, record highs

December yielded incredible results for property search upstart Zillow.com. They proudly reported that their property engine is hitting on all cylinders. On the traffic front, they saw a burst of traffic. Thanks in part to their partnership with Yahoo! and hundreds of local newspapers, 13 million consumers visited their website during the month of December. These are not only huge numbers, but they represent an impressive 77% growth over last year. For a venture-funded start up, they are on the right track. Along those lines, like their cross-town industry rival Trulia, Zillow posted a profit in 2010. They have officially [...]

Zillow and Agent Ratings

By |2018-11-08T02:43:58-08:00December 14th, 2010|Main category|Comments Off on Zillow and Agent Ratings

WAV Group has been talking about Agent Ratings for a long time now. We published a white paper on the topic in December of 2008. Around the internet, everything gets rated - consumer products and services of every type. It was not a terribly hard forecast to imagine that someone would emerge to become the epicenter of the Agent Rating. There have been a number of successful efforts in Agent Ratings - perhaps the leader in the space has.been QualityCertified or QSC.  They pioneered the landscape and have a methodology of insuring that real customers give real ratings. To my knowledge [...]

Zillow updates faster than Trulia but leaves listing agent behind.

By |2018-05-03T21:26:02-07:00September 15th, 2010|Broker-Agent Information, Main category|Comments Off on Zillow updates faster than Trulia but leaves listing agent behind.

Since the introduction of Virtual Office Websites, I have picked up the habit of scheduling listing alerts. My interest is not only in keeping up with listings of comparable homes that would influence my homes’ value, but also to see how data moves to third party listing websites. Today’s new listing is 755 Via Laguna Vista, San Luis Obispo CA 93405 Copy and paste it into Zillow and Trulia and see what you get. Right now, you will see that the listing is not for sale on Trulia, but they have built a lovely landing page with deep information. Zillow [...]

Trouble for Zillow

By |2018-05-03T21:26:02-07:00September 9th, 2010|Main category|Comments Off on Trouble for Zillow

Our old friend LendingTree stopped showing up to conferences after agents and brokers clarified that they did not enjoy paying referral fees on their listing content. Now LendingTree has gone on the offensive to block Zillow from continuing their progress on building out their mortgage product. From CNBC.com   LendingTree has sued Zillow and three other rivals, accusing them of infringing two patents for methods to help people obtain mortgage loans over the Internet.   Adchemy, NexTag and QuinStreet were also named as defendants in the lawsuit filed Wednesday in the federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina. LendingTree, a unit of Tree.com, accused its rivals [...]

Where HAR Goes, Zillow may soon follow

By |2018-05-03T21:26:08-07:00April 23rd, 2010|Main category|Comments Off on Where HAR Goes, Zillow may soon follow

This is pure speculation.  Nothing verified.  Just idle thinking….. Typically when a leader in the MLS industry like the Houston Association of REALTORS sets out a new business strategy, if it works - many follow.  As you may have heard, HAR is taking their Agent Ratings program to the next level.  They started with QSC, and are now they are developing a solution that allows consumers to see which REALTORS have represented the most number of buyers and sellers in a given area (powered by transaction information from MLS data).  The idea is that consumers will be able to see [...]

WAV Group to launch case study to evaluate Zillow

By |2018-05-03T21:26:38-07:00November 14th, 2008|Main category|1 Comment

Piles and Piles of consumers are visiting Zillow every day to look at home values and browse listings.  Sounds like a great place to advertise if you are an agent or broker, perhaps?  Does anyone really know? A long time ago I learned that simple logic often leads to bad choices.  In the simplest terms, if consumers are looking for real estate information on Zillow, and I advertise on Zillow, those customers will come to my website, convert into a lead, and use one of our agents to buy or sell their home.  Seems like a logical conclusion and we [...]

MLSs to consider sharing listings with Trulia, Zillow and others

By |2018-05-03T21:26:50-07:00November 14th, 2007|Main category|Comments Off on MLSs to consider sharing listings with Trulia, Zillow and others

MLSs are joining agents and brokers in the rush to contribute listings to online listing sites like Trulia, Google Base and others. There have been many spirited conversations regarding this trend and thought leadership is needed in this area. On the surface, the opportunity side of the equation seems pretty simple – send the listings and these companies will share them with visitors to their website for free.  Listings are marketed to consumers expanding the reach and exposure to the properties available. Opportunity Costs – although most mls organizations can easily provision listing feeds, depending on the rules and regulations [...]

It’s Time for MLSs to Take Back Control of Their Data

By |2025-10-13T13:33:10-07:00October 13th, 2025|MLS, MLS Insights|Comments Off on It’s Time for MLSs to Take Back Control of Their Data

Many MLSs believe they “own” their data because it’s collected under their rules and compliance structures. But in practice, most MLSs house their data on vendor-controlled servers, governed by vendor-written terms, infrastructure and development priorities.
