We recently received an interesting white paper/article from the CEO of the CTMLS, Cameron Paine, on the rationale for creating a national MLS consumer website. Cameron raises some very interesting ideas in his paper which you can read in its entirety on this post. This article highlights something WAV Group brings up at every strategic planning meeting and every conference we attend…we spend too much time in our industry working against each rather than cooperating. Separate agendas are being pushed at every level from national to state to local. There is an urgent need for our industry to work together [...]

Property Panorama as appointed real estate industry veteran Mike Barnet as its new CEO, and Trulia releases information about the source of inaccurate data on their website today. Property Panorama was not specific in outlining the reasons for changing their leadership, but a new captain is at the helm. Barnet joined the company as the CIO about a year ago, and has been working to lead the charge to take the popular virtual tour solution to a higher level. Property Panorama was a unique offering in the industry when it launched its MLS Data Powered automated virtual tour creation program. Today solutions [...]

Dot MLS Domains I was provided with a couple of previews of articles written by Judith Lindenau of the .MLS DomainAssociation today. Judith is a key member of the team volunteering their energy to pursue a top level domain name for the real estate industry called .MLS. You will see them on RE Technology next week (email me if you need an account). A Top Level Domain is what happens on the “right side of the dot.” a metaphor that I really like. On today’s internet, .com or .net are pretty meaningless. The concept of the new [...]

MLS Listings of the San Francisco Bay area is apparantly the first MLS in the country to join The Realty Alliance, Leading RE, the Council of MLSs, Home Services and others who have sent letters to NAR requesting a denial of recent wrokgroup suggestions for IDX policies. MLSListings, Inc. operates a regional multiple listing service for 8 REALTOR® associations in the Silicon Valley and coastal regions of Northern California, encompassing a service area of over 28,000 square miles and representing more than $70 billion dollars in annual real estate transactions. We are owned by these associations, and governed by the [...]

I just received a copy of the Report of Recommendations of the IDX Use Work Group of the Multiple Listing Issuse and Policies Committee. I have had a blur of calls from The Realty Alliance, Leading RE, MLSs and Franchises alike today. There are many significant concerns. At the heart of the recommendations is the new rule that IDX listing content may be distributed by RSS or other electronic means (anyway you want) to any third party without any restrictions what so ever. Brokers and Agents still have restraints on the use and display of the data on their own [...]

RPPSI, or REALTOR Party Political Survival Initiative got off on the wrong foot, so far. What NAR is trying to do as an advocate for REALTORS and property owners is admirable, but the execution of the strategy will need to improve if the initiative is to find success. They are getting almost 100% negative feedbackfrom the members on thier website. It breaks my heart to see NAR fail when good guidance in Washington is desperately needed. I learned about #RPPI on Twitter. A nice blog post that summarized the initiatives was found on the Arizona REALTORS blog here. From there I registered [...]

LPS launched their new real estate group website over the weekend.Http://www.lpsreg.com. The site is rich with information for their four primary product consumers: Brokers & Franchisors; Real Estate Agents; MLS; Data and Media. Drilling into any product group allows you to visualize the solutions. This is an interesting tactic - they are focused on solutions rather than products. Once a user selects the solution that meets their needs, the products that fill that need appear. I like the site. Hugely improved over the last site. 1000Watt Consulting worked with LPS to put all of the pieces together, even added some [...]
