By |2019-04-03T07:28:14-07:00April 1st, 2019|MLS Insights|2 Comments

For most people, real estate occupies the greatest percentage of family wealth – far more than investments in stocks or other wealth building accounts. Back in the 40s, my relative’s grandfather and his brother purchased a very modest two-bedroom cinderblock home in a nice neighborhood in St. Petersburg, Florida as a winter getaway. One brother ended up owning the property after his sibling and his wife passed. When the second brother passed, the property was inherited by his daughter, who is now 89 years old. She intends to either leave it to her grandchild or sell it and leave the [...]

Who is getting to the listing appointment first? Is it a traditional broker the first call for a listing appointment, or do consumers reach out to iBuyer programs like Zillow, Redfin, Keller Williams, Realogy, OpenDoor, Mark Spain, or others first?

Impact of the WolfNet Pipeline

There is a silent battle going on in real estate search. As consumers visit multiple websites and have numerous searches saved, the website that delivers the first alert to the consumer gets the click. All subsequent alerts from other sites are rendered as old news: they’re unread and deleted. It’s only natural. Zillow’s Opinion of Upstream and CAR’s Forms License Policy Is Obvious

By |2018-08-13T22:38:18-07:00August 5th, 2018|Broker Technology Research, Broker-Agent Information, Main category|1 Comment

I have been reading articles about Zillow Group’s positioning on Upstream and the forms licensing policy of the California Association of REALTORS® with great interest. My take away is that Zillow Group is doing and saying exactly what they should be doing and saying to positively impact Zillow’s market opportunities in real estate. Remember, Zillow has industry relations people and government relations people that want to fight tooth and nail for every advantage they can get. It’s business.

Real Estate Must Fix the Problems with Photography

One of the most interesting things about being an expert witness is recognizing how companies can avoid costly litigation. Zillow actually tested the courts in the case of VHT v. Zillow. The facts of the case were reported by Inman News. In summary, VHT filed for copyright on their images. The copyright was granted. VHT then provided a notification of their filing and requested removal. Zillow refused. VHT sued. The court awarded damages. I think the case is on appeal. This issue is not with Zillow or any other portal, it is about protecting the rights of copyright holders and giving privacy to families that buy homes.
